Surprise, surprise:
Texas Governor Rick Perry announced Thursday morning that he is dropping out of the presidential race and is endorsing Newt Gingrich for the Republican nomination.
"There is no viable path forward for me," he told supporters on Thursday. "I gave fully of myself for a cause worthy of this country," he added. Perry said it was time for him to make a "strategic retreat."
What a loss to humanity. Nate Silver has a great guide to why Perry's supporters
will likely not flock to Huntsman.
Under one week ago when Jon Huntsman (who?) dropped out of the race, I
predicted:
If I was a betting man, I'd say that Perry will be next.
It's too bad that I'm not a betting man. South Carolina will no doubt help decide who the next one to
exit the clown car drop out of the GOP race is. And Ron Paul really screws it all up – he
never had a chance of winning, so it makes it difficult to predict when he will drop out.
