By now, you've probably already seen the video that is posted below. Let me dig a little deeper than most of the mainstream publications and blogs. The video is undeniably racist, but the context is still relevant. Let's begin: remember Dale Peterson?
It was a viral video (viewable on that last link) that brought the name to fame in conservative circles. The man who created it was Ladd Ehlinger Jr., a right-wing film director. Well, he's back - with a bang. Check out this smear video against California Democrat Janice Hahn:
To begin with - what an awful political advertisement for her opponent, Republican Craig Huey. Racism, sexism, and close-mindedness aside, what the hell was that? Let's see how its creator, Ehlinger Jr., defends this steaming pile of political ad:

Holy shit.

It's having fun with a basic metaphor. You can guess what the metaphor is.
Before you charge racism at the ad, consider her one line in the video: "It takes a different kind of person to speak the language." By that she means, it takes black people to talk to black people. It takes gang members to talk to gang members. They have their own language, we should coddle them. They're not responsible for their actions if they murder someone, rape someone. They're a minority.
All of that's bunk. I'm from New Orleans. We have creole food, we have cajun food, we have french food, and we mix it all up. Anyone can talk to anyone.I think what Janice Hanh meant was that gang members use different vernacular from most law-abiding citizens. Not racist, not discriminatory.
And the main message to gang members in any city should be: want to kill someone? Want to rape someone? Meet Mr. Policeman. He will escort you to jail. [...]
Hahn is liberal Jane Harman (Newsweek, Daily Beast) approved, which means Hahn is also George Soros approved. Another reason to have fun at her expense, and let people know what an idiot she was and is.
I made the video for Turn Right USA, a brand new PAC designed to fund viral videos exposing stupid and corrupt politicians (on all sides the aisle, and under the seats, and in the broom closets, and in Congress' gym).In other words, he's a right-wing loon. What. A. Surprise. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has already denounced the advertisement. Turn Right USA even went as far as to create a racially-charged website for the campaign:
I kid you not. Naturally, a little research reveals that the original video (made by a Fox News affiliate) and trumped by Turn Right USA was completely fabricated. Most of the information was provided by two cops who are suing the city of Los Angeles, not independent research. (Can anyone say conflict of interest?) The rebuttal is quite long, but you can read it over at Open Left.
Craig Huey's campaign has rightly denounced the advertisement, although, oddly enough, Craig Huey, himself, has not. Janice Hahn is still favored to win and, if anything, this will only help her polling. That being said, I think that this has to be one of the worst political advertisements that I have seen in a very long time.
